Mission Statement:
Our mission statement is to build a deck steel bridge for educational purposes that does not violate the rules of the competition and demonstrates an understanding of the requirements and goals set forth by the code. In addition, compete and win the 2018 steel bridge competition.
Background:
This year, the Burgeon County Transportation Commission (BCTC) is planning a study that involves a competition to identify the best design for a limited-access, short-span bridge. The purpose of the short-span bridge is to handle the growing population, while providing access for bicycles, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles, and also banning private motor vehicles such as cars and trucks. In April 2018, the bridge will be judged, and tested for the stability, stiffness, strength, serviceability using lateral and vertical loads, construction speed and costs. The steel bridge will go through a series of phases that includes design, analysis, fabrication, testing and construction. To design and fabricate the steel bridge will maximize our educational skill levels.

Rules and Layouts:
A member shall not exceed overall dimensions of 3'0” x 6” x 4”
Any member, nut, or bolt has to be strongly magnetic steel
The bridge shall provide access for safely placing 3’-6” wide decking and load
The bridge shall not touch the river or the ground outside the footings
The bridge shall not extend more than 5'-0"above the ground or river
The construction zone is 18'-0" by 15'-0" with the river covering 6'-0" of it
Bolts shall have external threads that extend around the full circumference
A bridge that sways more than 1" during lateral load will not be ranked for awards in any categories
